iZZi is a physics shooter, similar to Ragdoll cannon, but instead of just landing your iZZis on a certain landing pad, you have to get them to eat up the all the blocks they can. It sounds simple enough at first, but the iZZis come in three different colors that are introduced over the course of the levels, and if they eat the wrong colored blocks they will pop and die, making it harder to earn a gold trophy for the level and progress in the game. If a red iZZi eats blue blocks it dies and you get no points for those blocks eaten. This forces you to be precise with your shots and avoid just launching your iZZis rapid-fire style. The game decides which color is about to fire, which can get frustrating because sometimes you just want one brown or a red and all it gives you is blue, but that’s how life can be sometimes I suppose. It will also offer up a new color if one group of colored blocks disappears, which is a good touch. There’s no penalty for blasting off tons of iZZis, but like I said you have to be careful or you could ruin a level for yourself.
The levels are varied enough that each one offers a unique challenge, and the set will be familiar but not burning for most players that fans of physics games. The style of the graphics are simple and light hearted, but don’t let that fool you because some of the levels can be really tough. Just like ragdoll cannon you may find yourself retrying levels to the point where it starts to get tedious. The simple style and catchy music make it hard to hate this game for it’s draw backs, iZZi is just on the line between addictively hard and pointless challenge.
With it’s low-key style and cheery pan flute music I wish I could like iZZi more, but it’s not wildly original or grabbing, and the flaws in game play make me give iZZi a 3.5 Bgames stars out of 5.
