Imagine a world where zombies flood the streets, the governments have all collapsed, and all you have left is a trusty desert eagle, the clothes on your back, an ailing mother in the local hospital, and a thirst for zombie blood. Oh, and your name is Bob. Bob needs to rid the world of zombies. They trampled his yard and now he’s mad. Running through 12 levels straight to Hell itself is what Zombie Splatter is.
I like zombies. I like most zombie games. Zombie Splatter is no different. The controls are simple keyboard and mouse pairing. The soundtrack was annoying, but I’ve never liked “The Ants Go Marching” in the first place. Graphics are a little basic, but from a top down perspective-I can give a little in that it’s hard to get clear character definition, but the level design was too basic, blocks and 8-bit images? Again, I have to give a little in that the game was most likely hastily put together as an advertisement for Dead Frontier-you got to give it to the marketing department over there-they crank out more zombie games to promote it than any other mmo I’ve ever seen. It’s very capitalistic and impressive all at once.
Bob earns experience and money for every kill, to which he can purchase guns, upgrades, and develops 4 character attributes: Damage, Agility, Endurance, and Rambo. The titles are fairly self-explanatory, except Rambo. It apparently gives some bonuses throughout the game-but I didn’t see too much benefit from the slow-down, or the double damage. The unlimited ammo was especially nice when paired with the Uzi. The weapons: Desert Eagle, Shotgun (double barreled, of course) Uzi, Chainsaw, Sniper Rifle, and RPG. My personal favorites and what I felt were the most effective were the Shotgun and the Chainsaw. Fast kills and it’s just tradition to use those, in my opinion.
Best tip: when using the guns run and shoot behind you, when using the chainsaw, hole up in a cubby somewhere and let them come to you-until the shooting zombies come out, then it’s time to zigzag at them and chop ‘em into bits. The first run through of the levels isn’t too difficult, but it becomes very challenging after every completion of all 12.
All in all a decent play with decent replayability.
3.5/5 Bgames stars
