The Great Dungeon In The Sky is an RPG adventure game with hundreds of characters to unlock and tons of unique dungeons to crawl through. The way the game works is that every time you kill an enemy you unlock it as a playable character. This is a great idea, and adds a lot of unlockable content to the game. This will either have you searching the levels searching for every last unlockable character, or just playing through casually and checking out the characters you unlock along the way. It’s fun to try all the different fighters; you can even play as a chimp. The problem is after a while they all sort of mix together. Most characters are variations on other ones, and there are not enough powers to make them all as unique as you might like. A lot of the characters are just the female counterparts to others, which is nice for the ladies but the characters are still identical. The dungeons have a similar problem. While there are a ton of levels, they all tend feel about the same, and for a game with so much content to it, this one can actually get a bit monotonous. There are a number of different spells and attacks that have different effects. You get a couple different kinds of ranged and melee attacks, plus a number of spells that are the most fun. Darkness can make your screen go dark (what else?) Spells like confusion will reverse your controls, and other spells make you freeze or jump uncontrollably. This is probably where the game has its most variety, but when its spread across so many characters it runs a bit thin. It would have been really nice if there were a leveling system, or at least some neat items and armor to find to customize your favorite character.
