Super Mega Bot is a bouncy, challenging platforming game where you play a robot that bounces from the top of each level to the bottom. You have to move the bot through treacherous levels full of spikes and spiky floating balls that want to kill you. It’s a simple set up that gets harder and harder. You have to collect blue boxes that give you points throughout the level and make it to the finish line without dying toooo much. You see if you die it’s just a minor point deduction, but you do have to go back to start and you’ll never earn that perfect score if you die. The game can get frustrating, because it so simple but also so difficult it makes it easy to get stuck on one little area that gives you trouble and it can make you want to give up on the whole level. Luckily there are checkpoints on the longer levels, so you can save your progress part way through, and avoid having to replay entire tricky levels.
The game’s design is neat, and I like the idea of bouncing up and down. You don’t have control over jumping, just movement speed, and the levels may be devious, but for hardcore platformer fans it’s just the right speed. To beat later levels you need precision and some minor planning as you zip through each level. The learning curve and simplistic controls might throw some casual fans off, but this is a solid game that offers a unique challenge. Through the later levels the frustration mounts and things start to feel a bit repetitive, but the satisfaction of overcoming the challenge outweighs the frustrating elements of this game. It’s worth the work to play this game, and I give Super Mega Bot 3.5 stars out of 5
