Steambirds: Survival is an interesting twist on the strategy game Steambirds. If you played the last one you know the set up. It’s a well thought out, turn based dogfight game. Now you just play as one ship of your choosing, and see how long you can last on one endless level of enemy ships. The longer you survive and the more ships you kill the more copper you’ll earn and you can use that copper to buy new, better ships and earn a few more friendly ships to fight with you. The game has the same solid game play but now it’s one endless level with good variety to the enemies. You can buy tons of new ships that each have different speeds, health and even power ups. This adds a lot of fun to the game, because you’ll find planes you like and then you’ll earn the copper to explore more. You can shift around after you’ve bought certain planes so it adds variety. It actually translates into a survival game rather well, and you won’t mind grinding to earn the new ships because the game play is so fun. The enemy’s will drop power ups when they die, so even if you don’t have a certain power you can always pick it up and give it a whirl. Some of them are more useful than others, and they’ve added a handy “heal” power which makes long ventures easier. The only thing I missed was being able to control multiple planes at once. It really added to strategy and made the game feel like an RTS. With just one plane it can feel a little bland, but thanks to all the power-ups and the ships you can buy things stay pretty lively.
I give SteamBirds: Survival 4.5 Bgames stars out of 5
