Steam Droid is a rather basic shoot-em-up type of a game where you're a (surprise!) Steam Droid and find yourself on a quest to free other unjustifiably enslaved Steam Droids through 14 levels of various terrain. On your way you will find a choice between Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty levels, to provide variety for players of different skill levels. There are no instructions once you start the game so click the Help button if you wish to learn about the controls, the goals of the game and virtually non-existent story. It's simple enough - use arrow keys or WASD to move and click mouse to shoot baddies on your way and visit fellow Steam Droids to free them. Do not miss any of the scrap tokens dropped by enemies as they are used to upgrade your weaponry and defenses between levels. Additional tokens and some temporary power-ups can be found by destroying crates. This should make your objective clear enough - charge, blast and thrash your way through levels as you liberate your unluckier colleagues and show no mercy for baddies who happen to be unlucky enough to be in your way. Upgrade between levels and repeat! The level design becomes more creative and challenging as your progress further in the game and eventually face the big bad boss. In addition to a rather fast-paced gameplay the game features a somewhat epic sound background which can be handily muted if that's not your thing, the graphics are satisfactory and the story... well, who needs it in a game where your big gun is the main focus? Pointless, mindless action. What else do you need when you're bored?
The game doesn't break any standards but is entertaining enough.
