Squadron Auriga is another tale of the fight of mankind for survival against a buglike menace reminiscent of Starship Troopers but lame. You command a base and send waves of different types of troops to attack and overrun the bug’s base and they try to do the same to you. There is a story in between the missions but it comes across so melodramatic I skipped through a lot of it to get at the game play.
The game is flawed on several fronts the key one being, I just didn’t like this game. SA is a copycat of all the other base defenders where the key strategy to survival and ultimate victory is spamming the fastest troops. The graphics aren’t very impressive and game play is hobbled by poor controls (moving troops aren’t very responsive with no clear attack/retreat commands). Subtle and not so subtle text errors pop up such as: “With this building player can add more units in a few of time.” If you fail to see the problem in the previous sentence, I would encourage you to revisit grade school grammar. Nothing against the developers if their primary language isn’t English, but if you’re going to publish a game in English then it may be prudent to invest in a grammar/spell checker.
The music is appropriate for the genre but with the game leaving such a bad taste in my mouth I found it annoying after a short while. It reminds me of 80’s action music (see Escape from New York-great movie). The best and brightest element to the game is the domination mode, which gives you several bases to control and upgrade fighting on multiple fronts.
All in all a disappointing play but points for the domination element: 2/5
