Spikes Tend To Kill You may sound like a straight-forward game, but this puzzling platformer is a devious, difficult challenge that requires expert timing and skill to complete. You control a little blue square and race through a series of traps, guns and of course those fatal spikes. The game is really rough, and if you’re not into those timing based plat formers that require precise jumps and many frustrating gauntlets you may want to shy away. But if you’re a real gamer with hair on your plat forming balls, you’ll relish this challenge and have a great time perfecting your approach to this game. You have to figure out the best path, and in later levels you’ll have to think a few steps ahead to be successful. The elements that want to kill you all blend together well, and the precise controls help let you get through them. Some games like this build a lot of frustration thanks to shoddy controls, but the simple fluid controls of Spikes Tend To Kill you keeps the frustration down, and lets you improve your skills without getting too tired of trying and failing to wall jump or double jump. This game doesn’t have any of those jumping gimmicks, and keeps things simple with normal movement and a pressure sensitive jump. Having the time limit will encourage some maniacs out their to go for the best time in the world, and it also helps to urge you a long and condemns you for dying too much. So the short levels don’t feel too easy because you have infinite lives. This game does a great job challenging but not frustrating, and it’s control scheme keeps things exciting with every new level.
