Sky Island might look simple at first, but this game is definitely more than meets the eye! While the childish retro graphics combined with soothing music lures us to think this is another kids platform game, Sky island is one of the most clever and refreshing games I saw in a while.
The game puts you in the role of a cute yellow star with a simple goal, collecting the stars and reaching the ending block.
During the game you will stumble into blocs you can climb on, enemies that you jump over ( just like Mario) and it looks like something you have seen before.
While this game-play seems quite common you swiftly discover the game's twist. Using your mouse you can rotate the surroundings and discover several paths to solve each level.
From here on the game increases its difficulty very nicely as each level is a little harder than its predecessor. The screen rotating feature increases the the moving options and turns the simple platrom game to a 3D puzzler with lots of paths and options per level.ma
The consists of 15 levels, with lots of angles and twists and some levels are quite challenging.
What I really liked in Sky Island is the cheerful graphics and sound that took me back to the good old SNES days. Regarding the game play itself I had some problems with the screen rotating that was not that intuitive for a casual flash gamer, as it took several spins to grasp the position of our star hero in the game play.
All in all Sky Island is a great platform puzzle game wit ha twist, it tests our spatial abilities and doing it all in fun and style. Sky Island receives 3.5 our 5 Bgames stars.
