Sky Control is a bland attempt at an Air Traffic Controller(ATC) puzzle game where you must direct several different types of aircraft safely through your area of control. Cautiously avoiding obstacles along the way and gaining points as you pass beacons and grab power ups.
The controls are simple enough, mouse only. The graphics are uninspired. Music is nonexistent-there are occasional sound effects as new planes enter the screen or the UFO zaps your planes out of the sky. The only real variation on the planes’ abilities is its speed, size doesn’t seem to effect the turning ability of the planes at all. The game’s apparent goal is to give a sense of reality is obscured by an overall lack of insight-the game is just plain boring, and with 30 levels to trudge through it becomes tedious to finish in just a short while.
The power ups are one of the few shining elements in the game-they actually do what they claim to do. One of the best is the hand, which will allow you to drag and drop your plane anywhere on the grid. Useful when those pesky UFOs or flocks of birds block your path. Another perk is the upgrades between levels that allow a few in game perks like smaller perimeters to give you more room to string the plans closer together. In reality the upgrades don’t add enough to the game to make it enjoyable-often enough in games like this the upgrades can be the challenge that makes the game worth playing-this is not one of those games.
All in all a dry game at best, there are better versions out there-2/5
