Sieger is a neat take on the Crush The Castle formula, because it removes the idea of a launcher and just lets you click directly where you want the shot to land. This adds simplicity, but when you have to keep hostages alive the accuracy is a welcome change. The game challenges you with levels that include men on your side, who cannot be killed or you lose the level. This adds something to the game and almost makes it feel like a puzzle game at times, because you have to be so precise and pick just the right spot to have your shot land. It’s a lot of fun to tear down the castles piece by piece and wreak havoc on its occupants.
You can upgrade your launcher to spray poison instead of just breaking walls, and the different castles and siege scenarios add a good amount of variety to the game. Plus there’s three different time periods to fight through, with different building materials and enemies to kill. There’s a medal system that urges you to use as few shots as possible, so this adds a challenge for players who want to become siege masters. Sieger is a welcome change to a genre that has been pretty prominent lately, and the “Castle Builder” and “People’s Empire” options add some nice replay value, so when you’re done crushing castles you can build your own or go after your friend’s. While the lack of a launcher cuts down on the challenge, the addition of hostages ramps it up, and makes the launching still fit into the game better. While it’s sad you don’t get see the trebuchet launching your boulders or plague bodies, I still give Sieger 4.5 Bgames stars out of 5.
