Shattered Colony: The Survivors is a game where you command a group of survivors in the zombie apocalypse, fighting to stay alive in the face of their brainless adversaries. You have to take control of the colony in an real time strategy style game where you must collect wood and ammo, while building sniper towers, barricades and depots to fortify your survivors against the undead swarm. There’s a campaign mode with a survival level at the end, and a random level generator so you can always have a new challenge to deal with.
Unfortunately this doesn’t keep things from getting stale, because there is really only one kind of offensive tower to build and you can upgrade it but they basically all do the same thing. It would have been really nice to see some more variety in the ways you can attack, because the RTS elements are pretty solid, and who doesn’t love a good zombie game? Your survivors wander around the map when you send them to scavenge for resources or build towers, and I would have liked to see a way to give those vulnerable people a little fire power to fight off straggling zombies. Some of the resource gathering seems a bit wonky, and you can keep building things while it just goes from zero into negatives as far as resources go. It won’t let you do certain things, but you can keep making workshops and towers when you have zero or negative resources in certain areas. It’s clear there was a lot of thought put in, and the result is a fairly fun zombie survival game, but with a little more work and detail this title could have really been something special.
As it stands I give Shattered Colony 3.5 Bgames stars out of 5.
