Rombo Rush is an old school style FPS that is reminiscent of Doom. The set up is as simple as can be, survive. You fight wave after wave of ghastly creatures in an effort to gain the highest score possible. It’s a simple yet addictive game, just like its inspiration from the past. All these zombies, evil bats and horrible creatures just didn’t pop out of nowhere though. (Well they do, but there’s also a story.) And evil magician summoned them all! You have a fireball spell to defend yourself, and that’s it. The challenge is that every level the amount of baddies ramps up, and so does their damage and health. You have to keep plowing through waves and waves while collecting as much loot as you can. You’ll find the loot around the levels, and as you progress these levels get larger and larger. It’s very addictive, because the controls are solid and for fans of Doom and other early shooters it’s a great walk down memory lane. I just wish that the game offered up a little more offense. It would be fun to level up and earn new spells, or at least power up your fireballs. Even with the simple set up this game delivers a great, old school experience and even those young games that don’t remember Doom will love this quirky, addictive shooter. It may be simple for a shooter, but that just means that instead of leveling your character you need actually level up your ability to play the game. Of course a good variety of weapons and enemies is always welcome, but this is a case where it would just be pushing the game over the top, and it doesn’t really hold the final product back.
