Rocket Up is a launch game that is as simple as the name suggest. You send a rocket flying up into the air, ear money to buy power ups to get higher and higher. It’s a simple formula that we’ve seen hundreds in different games, often with some tweak or special game play style that makes things fun and interesting. Rocket Up doesn’t offer much unique game play, you simply steer the rocket with the mouse and you can buy some power ups to lengthen each flight. The real challenge is dodging the planes and obstacles in your way. Often you run into a screen cluttered with these, and as speed picks up they become basically impossible to avoid. Your only choice is to buy durability and the shield power up. It kind of makes the other powers take a back seat, because you need the shield and durability if you want to make any useful amount of money each launch. This can lead to a lot of frustrating grinding, which is often the case with these games, but it should not be as tedious as all the clutter in Rocket Up makes the game. A challenge is always nice, but this game too often feels frustrating. There’s a lot of trail and error sort of game play here, which to be honest comes with the territory. But the sheer amount of restarting you’ll have to do is really obnoxious. Especially when you’re just getting started, you may end up giving up before your first power up. It’s nice to a see hard game but when it’s just cheap and everything is stacked against you it’s no fun. Not to mention this game has a limited number of power-ups, and game play wise offers nothing particularly unique. The game works fine, and is a tough launch game for those veterans out there, but the flaws just drag it down too much. I give Rocket Up 3 stars out of 5
