Retromash is a blend of Space Invaders and Tetris. The player uses the tetri, tetris, tetriminos-whatever, to destroy the invaders as the fall on your position. As in Tetris, the games pace increases with every level. Occasionally you’ll have assistance in the form of bombs. Enemies will change shape and color as you progress. No real surprises here.
The game is fun at first but it does get pretty old pretty quick. There is no real strategy to the game it’s just a race to see how long you last before you’re overrun. The best tip I can offer is to clear a small path up through the middle and use your tetriminos to blast entire columns. Use the space bar to advance the rows if you can’t quite fit the blocks in.
Pros: RM is not a game you have to expend much mental energy on so it’s a good time-waster in that respect. Pixel graphics are popular and still fun to see. The idea of mashing two different games is fresh and exciting. Music goes along with that 8 bit genre very well. Controls are easy to use-no bugs on game play or interface.
Cons: It’s just too boring to play for very long, I tried playing several times over the course of two days and while getting a respectable score-I didn’t enjoy it or want to do it again. Replayability is nil.
If I were to remake the game-I would add levels that can be accessed through game play. For example-once you reach level 5 you can start on level 5 the next time to begin a new game. Also adding in special blocks would be fun too-exploding, time stop, etc.
My last play score was 1,818,900. Beat that!
All in all Retromash is decent game with a bland experience: 2/5 Bgames stars
