Pixel Purge starts of with an impressive intro that tells the intriguing story of Pixela-RT, a once happy and tranquil place that was protected by sacred laws. But like every good story, evil steps into the picture, a horde of enemies has invaded and is doing whatever it can to raise hell.
The rescue falls on the shoulders of a small pixel warrior- You!
The game is a top retro-shooter ( check out Death vs Monsters for more of those), you control a white space-ship and embark on a brave quest with one objective, cleaning the place form pixel baddies.
The game controls are quite basic and similar to many shooter games, movement is done with arrows/WASD and shooting via mouse.
The game-play starts of pretty easy but as you advance the challenge rises up slowly and becomes more difficult as enemy waves continue, especially with the purple baddies- They really annoy!
As we all know, and so the developers knew, a shooter game is measured by several parameters, game-play, diffculty , graphics and of course- Upgrades! Pixel Purge will not let you down on this parameter, while fighting you collect pixels that can later be used to improve your abilities, you can increase your fire power, rate of shooting, pixel droppings and my personal favorite- Critical ( nothing beats awesome shots! ).
When playing Pixel purge you sometimes forget you're playing a retro game, the sound is extremely cool ( and do not make use of 8-bit sounds like so many retro games), a feature that gives contrast to the graphics, but blends in very smoothly, and really gets you into the atmosphere, the graphics is also cool with lots of shiny objects and the overall feeling is of an intensive, upgraded retro shooter.
Pros- Cool graphics, great sounds, intensive game-play and critical shots!
Cons- Kinda repetitive, no save option- If you die your character with all upgrades is gone.
4 out of 5 Bgames stars
