Pirate Conflict is a port of another popular turn based strategy: Steambirds. You buy ships, captain and crew them and then head out on missions to earn more gold to buy more ships and captains. One key difference between the two games is in the captain skills element. The special features you would normally have in Steambirds likes rockets and super speed are only acquired when you buy certain captains, such as mines or decoys. On my first go round, I was a bit impressed with Pirate Conflict. Pirate games are usually on the weak side and could always use a pick me up to boost the fan base. After the first mission I realized that it was an imitation of the other turn based game and became dismayed. The more I played the dismay rolled over into acceptance. Pirate Conflict isn’t a bad game, just a copy of a popular game. It’s fun, and easy to learn. To be perfectly honest, there’s little I would change-the interface in combat is glitchy switching the zoom rapidly especially if you have more than one ship in play. It’s easily handled with the in-game controls if you can get used to the eye-crossing effect it can have.
I like the marked contrast between the abilities the of different ships, elements like speed and turning radius are really crucial to how quickly you dispatch your foes. Choose your ships wisely. Also, only buy the crew numbers you need-all extras are lost and the gold wasted if you try to stock up as there is no firing option for your crew.
All in all Pirate Conflict is an okay play-there are better versions on the theme out there.

3/5 Bgames stars.
