PC Defense is a pretty standard tower defense game where you try to protect your exposed PC from nasty little viruses that want nothing more than to eat your precious hard drive. It’s a neat little idea, but unfortunately it’s not well executed.
There are a few bugs, and after the first tutorial you can’t actually check your tower’s stats so you’d better have a good memory. It also makes leveling up the towers annoying, because you don’t know what exactly you’re improving. With so many other games out their like it, PC Defense’s strong points don’t stand out against its glaring flaws. It’s not completely broken as a game, it’s just that if you’ve played a better tower defense, you’re probably better off going back to that. If you’ve plowed through everyone so far, PC Defense may keep you entertained for a while though.
The actual game play is pretty smooth and runs without any jerkiness or freezing, but if you leave the game screen sometimes your towers will stop shooting, so there’s a few issues with that. It has a neat array of creepy crawly viruses that each has their own speed and strength, and there’s a pretty nice collection of towers too. But the fact of the matter is better tower defense games are a dime a dozen, since we’ve seen this style so many times other games have really perfected the formula. Its creators should look at games like “Cursed Treasure: Don’t Touch My Gems” and the “Protector” series for inspiration on how to make a tower defense game that’s solid and unique. The quirky idea only gets you so far if you do not back it up with some substance, especially if you’re going to throw your hat into an overcrowded market.
I give PC Defense 2 stars out of 5.
