Neon Rider World is the second game in a racing franchise which places you in control of a light cycle not unlike Tron. Different from Tron in the goal and mechanics of the game, however. You can change your colors depending on the track color to get a better time with a shorter path or to just stay on the track, period. There are no combatants save beating the track time. 15 levels in all with a promising list of user developed levels available to try. Choosing a few of the randomly selected levels proved to me that the users were far more unforgiving in their level design. Prepare to hear weeping and gnashing of teeth as you replay the first segment of many of these levels several times.
Pros: Visually, the game is nice to see and watch, glowing neon against a dark background is strangely soothing for me. The levels are challenging without being impossible. Overall it was just a short fun game.
Cons: The music was only one electronica track and it became annoying after about 5 minutes of play, fortunately it can be muted. There aren’t enough developer levels and the controls can be frustrating at times due to the sluggish response.
I would say the last 5 levels were the most challenging and the most fun with multiple color switches on each level plus steep climbs and sudden drops to add to the overall difficulty. I found myself replaying the levels at least a couple times for failure to make the timing right on several jumps. This will be much worse on the user levels. . .
All in all a good play worth the time; 3.5/5 Bgames stars.
