Garden Gnome Carnage is a quirky little game with an awesome name and simple, yet unique game-play mechanic ( Check out more Awesome retro games here). You swing your self around by sliding your house back and forth so that you can whack deranged garden gnomes and Santa sleds out of the air. It’s a bit hard to control, but knocking out gnomes, racking up combos and throwing bricks around is a total blast. There’s actually a nice bit of depth added by the fact you can swipe bricks from your house to hurl out into the battle field, call in air strikes (that’s right for reason you have bomber jets on your side) and gain power ups from friendly cats that you have let climb up onto your house and make it down your chimney. This game is a real time waster in every sense of the word, and with it’s whack nature and fun game play you may end up wasting more time than you’d think. I totally found myself lulled into a trace sometimes, thanks to all the enemies and the electronic Christmas tune droning on and on.
The game play stays largely the same as you progress, the only difference being the waves of enemies get bigger and bigger. Soon you’ll find yourself swarmed by too many evil gnomes who want nothing more than to climb down your chimney and ruin your Christmas. I kind of wish it were easier to control your swinging madman sometimes, because it’s too hard to avoid your friends (especially if they end up clustered in a group of gnomes.) And it would have been cool if holding the brick gave you some extra weight and therefore a bit more range with the rope. But all in all this game is solid, unique and total blast!
I give Garden Gnome Carnage a 4 Bgames stars out of 5
