Evolution of Magic tauts itself as an action rpg. As I played the game all I could think of was how much like Pokemon the game looked like but the game play was actually pretty good. The game play overall seems a little repetitive, if you find there’s a tough spot in the level progression, just go back a level or two and keep fighting that monster until you can level your spells, abilities, or weapons enough to pass the tough spot. It does get somewhat boring to fight the same monsters over and over.
Art: 0/1
Like I said, it reminds me of a poorly drawn pokemon-and that’s not saying too much.
Sound: .5/1
It’s on a loop but the electronica fits the game and helps break up the monotony a bit.
Controls: .5/1
It’s very irritating to have to go back to the galaxy map and reselect the world and level your want after every purchase and upgrade. You would think the developers would have been able to program a better “back” button to use. Other than that the controls aren’t hard to navigate and they don’t detract from the overall gaming experience.
Story: .5/1
I’m not 100% certain what the story line is after playing it for several minutes. I’m supposed to fight monsters and level up, but the plot seems a little ambiguous at the early stages of the game.
“Enjoyability”/ Replayability: 1/1
The worlds seem to have several levels each and multiple worlds means lots of dungeon crawling and while the level up system seems grossly imbalanced, it proves that there is a lot of time that must be invested in the game to solve all its levels. That can be good or bad, but if the early levels are any indication of the total game experience, then I’m afraid it’s none too promising.
All in all Evolution of Magic is a mediocre gaming experience and game play 2.5/5
