Cube and Ball is a cute little kids game, and it has some potential to be a great game, but the fact that it leaves no instructions at all will discourage many from playing past where the controls are easy enough to work out. While instructions are not always necessary, it would be nice if there were a system that could give the player little nudges in the right direction. Along with the lack of instructions, the background never seems to change, and that can make a big difference to games. With a background that is never changing, the graphics don’t seem to be important to the developer, but it’s the little things that count. Perhaps if the background were to change every couple of levels, or there were some basic instructions at the start of each level, like “Collect all the dots”, or “Fight back”, it would make the game that bit more enjoyable.
There have been quite a few games lately, that have been mixed genre, or had no instructions, but each of those has either given a short explanation of your goals for each level, or had some sort of background story that you could follow, which would make working out the aim a bit easier.
Despite the flaws in the game, it’s rather cute, and with cartoon-like graphics like this, it really stands out, at first, as the kind of thing a young child would play, but as I played through, it became apparent that finishing this would be no simple task, and could take quite some time and effort to work out.
Over all, this isn’t the kind of thing you would want to sit down and play to relax after a stressful day, and I would only recommend you try it if you have long lasting patience, and a fair bit of time up your sleeve.
