Clayball is an interesting Claymation style puzzle game. You launch a round clay face around the world to collect stars. Once you’ve collected every star a portal opens up and you have to make it there as fast as you can. The game’s point system is based on time, and in later levels you will run into laser beams that can give you extra time and there by hurting your score. You can also jump into other balls that you can use to destroy the harmful beams and take some time off the clock. It’s a fun little game, and the style is really neat. Clay games don’t come around very often, and this is one of the better ones around. The clay graphics look really neat, and that makes it fun to play around in the world. It also aids a bit in the frustrating nature of this game. You can end up using a lot of jumps, which thankfully doesn’t directly affect your score, but it does eat up precious time.
There’s a good variety to the levels, but the game play itself starts to feel repetitive. When you get stuck on one level it can get really frustrating, but you can power through and use the infinite amount of throws and lives, as long as you’re not too concerned with your score. I wish that the actual visual style of the levels had some more variety, as they all start to mesh together once you get through more and more. This could have been a really great clay game, but at the end of the day it kind of peters out during the home stretch and delivers another fairly average clay style game.
I would have loved to see more from Clayball, but I give it 3.5 stars out of 5 Bgames stars
