Cactus McCoy is just as awesome as it sounds. You play as a Cactus Cowboy, that’s right, and anthropomorphic cactus that runs around punching bad guys, firing pistols, shot guns and roman candles at various bad guys in this stylish side scroller. And if you didn’t just stop reading and start playing at “You play as a Cactus Cowboy…” there isn’t much I can say at this point.
But seriously this game has smooth, fast action; great exploration elements and cool upgrade system. Along with its unique setting and great music, there’s really not a lot more you can ask from a game! The jumping puzzles are probably the hardest part of the game, which makes me wish there were some physical categories you could upgrade, like maybe a jumping upgrade that can make you stick to walls, then bounce off them, then maybe even double jump. It would just make things a little more fun for people who just can’t perfect their average jumping technique. It would also add to the need to back track and collect all the treasure and complete the challenges in each level. Every level has a number of stars you can earn, by doing everything from finishing the level in a certain amount of time to killing all the enemies, or killing 10 with a certain weapon. This does add to the replay value, since the game is so fun you don’t mind replaying a level once or twice. After a while though it can seem frustrating, you just have to push forward at one point and forget about the free upgrade cash. You can also earn upgrade cash with combos. After an enemy dies you can keep whacking’ them, and every time you do you get more coins from them. This makes the shotgun my favorite weapon, it is a CASH COW. I give Cactus McCoy 5 sheriff Bgames stars out of 5; the drawbacks aren’t enough to take away from the fun in this game.
