Big Evil Robots or BER if you will, is a puzzle game where you must hit “cores” with your slingshot to destroy the BER’s. Essentially, a physics shooter where you need to have precise aim and a solid grasp on firing arcs and ricochets to complete the levels. The story short gives the basic premise that giant evil robots have attacked your hometown and while the armed forces cannot manage to figure out how to destroy them, you and you slingshot save the day. 15 levels of arcing action flinging marbles at buttons to gain access to the core after negotiating your way through rotating wheels, paddles, and hinges.
If you like this genre of game, then you may be amused by it for a short while. I found many of the game’s elements lacking and therefore did not enjoy myself all that much. Here’s why: the art of the robots were significantly better than the stationary boy shooting marbles-it seemed very slapped together in that respect. The frantic music is distracting and obnoxious; there is a mute feature. The story, as implausible as most game stories are, again looked just tossed in as a post-production thought.
The elements I liked most are the background animations of the robot rampaging through the town and chasing its citizens. Funny and added a bit of flair to the game. The game controls and physics were very accurate and easy to use.
BER was a decent play but I wouldn’t invest more than 30 minutes on it, nor would I play it at all if another game had caught my eye.
All in all Big Evil Robots is a mediocre experience at best. 2.5/5 Bgames stars.
