Balloonator is a cute little game in which you pop as many balloons as possible by launching one dart onto the screen. Each balloon has a symbol that corresponds with how it will react. A (-) will send 2 darts horizontally, (x) 4 directions diagonally and so on. 25 levels total-none too challenging, but an easy no brainer with nice game features to add to the enjoyment.
Pros: Color wise it’s light and upbeat as is its music. No doom and gloom to brood upon as you decimate the rubbery hoards-that doesn’t sound quite right does it? It is an easy game so playing doesn’t tax your thoughts if you’re distracted by nuisances like homework or marketing reports.
Cons: It’s easy so there’s no replayability. Once you’ve solved it the only point in replaying is to see if you can do it faster( and there’s no game clock to time you). The biggest problem is games like this are more about luck than skill, if you replay a level enough times eventually you’ll hit your target number of balloons popped with no strategy or planning involved. The music can grate on you if you’re not in a peppy mood-it’s like having a chihuahua-they’re fun for about 3 mins then it’s time to find a real dog.
There aren’t really any difficult levels, as I said it’s mainly luck so you’ll beat the level after enough attempts. No special tips or tricks either-I beat the game in about 15 minutes. I think a level editor or just more levels would extend the game play, but would that make the game monotonous and cut out the ‘cute’ factor that makes the game moderately appealing? You decide.
All in all-not a bad game 2/5 out of Bgames Stars.
