Attack of the Bean Men is a goofy tower-defense game where you must protect your castle from an endless stream of beans hell bent on tearing it down. The beans are pretty funny looking, and the music and sound effects make this a pretty hilarious tower defense games with a few neat power ups. The levels increase the difficulty and the challenge, but there are really no upgrades to buy. You spend most of the game firing the same arrows, unless you manage to hit the power up target for a boost in firing speed, fire arrows or a rain of arrows among other useful things. The fact that this is your only way to get stronger is neat, because the targets are hard to hit and distract you from the attacking beans, but it’s limiting because unlike other tower defense games you can customize your upgrades to get your character just how you like him. It’s not exactly necessary to be like every other tower defense game, but the idea of upgrades and leveling up is always nice keep things fresh.
Attack of the Beans is funny enough and addicting, so you don’t really miss an in-depth upgrade system. The goofy nature and the simple yet smooth game play make it fun to see just how far you can get, but the lack up variety holds it back from being something special. As it is the game is a fun little time waster, but with some more effort the sequel could be a great game worth coming back to. If you’re getting tired of the same old defense games than this one is a casual break from the more advanced defense games out there, and a lot of fun at least for a while.
I give Attack of the Beans 3.5 Bgames stars out of 5.
