As I lay Dying might look at first like another Retro/ Platform game, but it's definitely not one.
The game revolves around Teale and Christie loving(?) couple that goes on a romantic night walk. The story gets a tragic twist as Teale falls from a ledge when trying to smell a flower. Unlike most girlfriends Christie comes around pretty fast and after few sarcastic remarks, starts the adventure of coming back home ( with her boyfriend's body, of course).
The graphics is simplistic, but the great sound effects compensate and really add up to the atmosphere. The music is kinda repetitive and adding some tracks or longer loop would really add.
The character movement is done by using the WASD keys, which sometimes interferes the game, especially when trying to click the space to activate objects. Adding Arrow keys option could really help, nonetheless the character control and jumping are quite accurate, and jumping through the platforms is quite easy.
The game's difficulty slowly increases as you advance, and many times you will find yourself jumping like crazy, trying to activate switches and getting back on time, before the crows devour your boyfriend's body.
The game features various challenges, like moving platforms, falling platforms that can hold only 1 character, and other hazards that test your skills. During the game you will carry and throw Teale around but do not forget, don't leave him alone for too long or the vultures will eat him up!
Like most online games you will stumble upon various achievements, that don't add too much, but I guess you can't have a flash game without those friends.
All in all As I Lay Dying is a great addictive little game and receives 4 out of 5 Bgames stars
